The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga has been going on for years and has been full of twists and turns, but it feels like the road ultimately leads to Real Madrid. It has emerged that the Frenchman does not intend to extend his contract with PSG. His current deal runs out in the summer of 2024. Of course, that puts the Ligue 1 giants in a bad position.
If they fail to transfer Mbappe this summer, then they risk seeing him walk out as a free agent. As a result, they need to either agree an extension with the World Cup winner or try to engineer a move away for him.
Of course, a lot will depend on Mbappe though. He has a year left on his deal with PSG and might find the prospect of becoming a free agent more attractive than making a move this summer.
As reported by Sky Sports, PSG believe Mbappe has already agreed to join Real Madrid on a free transfer next summer. The French World Cup winner was sent a letter by the Ligue 1 club on Monday, in which they made it clear that he would be transferred in this window unless he agrees to extend his contract before the end of the month.
Superb Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer claim
It remains to be seen how the Mbappe saga turns out this summer. PSG seem to be determined to part ways with him in the scenario that he does not sign a new contract with the club.
If Mbappe does indeed leave PSG this summer, then Real Madrid appears to be his most likely destination. The exit of Karim Benzema has made it even more important for Los Blancos to bring in a world-class forward.
The 24-year-old could be the solution to their problems. But Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing him too.
