Casemiro explains why he left Real Madrid for Manchester United
Casemiro had everything at Real Madrid. The Brazilian was a bonafide club legend, with a nailed on starting spot in the team and was coming off of a La Liga and Champions League double-winning campaign. Thus, it came as a surprise to most fans, when he decided to leave in order to join Manchester United last summer.
The transfer package is believed to have been £70 million including add-ons. Perhaps too good of an offer for Real Madrid to turn down for a then 30-year-old midfielder.
Casemiro has done spectacularly well since joining Manchester United as well. They ended a five-year wait for a trophy by winning the League Cup last season, and the Brazilian has been hailed by many as the best defensive midfielder in the English top flight.
Casemiro has now explained his decision to leave Real Madrid in order to join Manchester United. As reported by GOAL, he said while speaking to Brazilian magazine Placar:
"“It was a chance to leave a big club on top, at an age that still allows me to have that willpower. If it was two or three years from now, I wouldn’t be leaving Real Madrid to go to another big club, I wouldn’t have that ambition to change leagues.”"

While the move has gone well for Casemiro, the same cannot be said about Real Madrid. Los Blancos have failed to properly replace the Brazilian till now and their 2022/23 campaign was not viewed as a success even though they won the Copa del Rey.
The hope was that Aurelien Tchouameni would take Casemiro’s place in the team. And the Frenchman did make a bright start to life at Real Madrid, as fans started to feel that the club had pulled off a masterstroke with their summer moves.
Tchouameni’s form would fade away as the season progressed though, especially after the World Cup, and he is already being linked with a move away from the club. But the expectation is that the Frenchman will stay on at Real Madrid and hopefully, we will see his best form on a consistent basis in the 2023/24 campaign.
