Lack of depth was already an issue for Real Madrid last season and since then, they have also seen the likes of Karim Benzema, Eden Hazard, Mariano Diaz and Marco Asensio leave the club, further reducing their options. Despite that, there are a few player who could still be on the way out this summer.
Right-back is an area of weakness for Real Madrid right now. Dani Carvajal might be a club legend but he is nowhere near the player that he was in his prime. On the other hand, the likes of Lucas Vazquez and Nacho Fernandez are past 30 as well and not natural right-backs either.
Despite that, Alvaro Odriozola has failed to get consistent playing time at Real Madrid. And his stint at Santiago Bernabeu might be coming to a close soon.
He joined the club back in 2018 but has never really been able to establish himself as an important player for the team. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has made 49 appearances for Real Madrid till now.
Real Madrid defender close to leaving the club this summer
As reported by AS, there are already open negotiations between Real Sociedad, Real Madrid and Odriozola’s agents for his return this summer to his former club. It seems that this time talks are going to come to fruition.
Odriozola came through the ranks at Real Sociedad and played his best football for them as well. Thus, the Spaniard returning to the club makes all the sense in the world even though there is believed to be interest in him from Serie A teams.
Other than Real Madrid, Odriozola did spend time on loan at Fiorentina and Bayern Munich over the past five years as well. His development has not gone as expected though and it would be best for all parties to part ways this summer.
