Right-back is a position where Real Madrid need to bring in reinforcements as soon as possible. Dani Carvajal is a club legend and has achieved a lot during his time at Santiago Bernabeu. But one has to admit that the Spaniard is nowhere near the player that he was in his prime. On the other hand, Los Blancos do not have any genuine back-up option to him either.

Nacho Fernandez and Lucas Vazquez are both past 30 years of age, and they are not natural right-backs either. On the other hand, Alvaro Odriozola has barely featured and is believed to be closing in on a return to Real Sociedad.

Thus, Real Madrid need to bring in a long-term solution at right-back. And one of the players that they have been heavily linked with in recent times is Reece James of Chelsea, who is believed to be rated at a transfer fee around £70 million.

James is one of the most talented players in the world right now and if he can put his injury problems behind him, he has the potential to be one of the best in the game. Unfortunately for Real Madrid, it does not seem like he has plans of leaving Chelsea anytime soon.

As reported by the Mirror, James’ father Nigel said while speaking on The Beautiful Game podcast:

"“Reece is a top player so I’m sure most clubs would want to sign him but right now I don’t see anything changing. He is a Chelsea player and unless Chelsea wants to sell him, it’s like anything.“If a club does not want to work with you anymore and for some reason they want to get rid of you then you go. If they want you … he’s been there since six years of age, his ambition is to wear the armband and captain the side and it broke his heart the season we have had just gone.”"

It is not hard to see why James might have ambitions of captaining Chelsea some day. He has been at the club since he was six years of age.

There is no doubt that he has the quality to do that. His major problem has been injuries, as he has spent several spells out on the sidelines over the past couple of seasons.

While James might not be looking to leave Chelsea, the club have let several key players go in recent times. Thus, Real Madrid should keep an eye on the situation of the right-back, in case an opportunity arises in the future.
