Most Real Madrid fans would admit that the 2022/23 campaign was not a success for the club. They might have won the Copa del Rey, which has been rare in recent years, but their La Liga defence was a complete failure as Barcelona pretty much dominated the title race. Los Blancos were pretty good in Europe, reaching the Champions League semi-finals, but the manner of their exit at the hands of Manchester City was disappointing and worrying at the same time.

One could argue that the Real Madrid squad has improved since then. Jude Bellingham and Fran Garcia are expected to be starters come next season. Hopefully, Arda Guler and Brahim Diaz will be able to fill the void of Marco Asensio, who has joined PSG.

The one big hole in the squad is up top, with Karim Benzema leaving for Al-Ittihad at the end of last season. Joselu has been brought in on loan but there are doubts about whether he would be able to lead the line.

On the other hand, Barcelona have brought in a couple of players as free agents. Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan have joined the Catalan giants this summer. And looks like Joan Laporta is very confident in his squad.

Real Madrid fans won’t be happy with Laporta’s claim

As reported by SPORT, Laporta said:

"“We have a better team than Madrid and, individually, we are also better with some difference than our rivals. As a member and a fan I am very satisfied with the team we are building.”"

It will be very interesting to see how the La Liga title race plays out next season. But it is expected to be much tighter than this time around.

If Real Madrid are able to add a world-class striker to their ranks, most people would consider them as the favourites next season. There have been some rumours about a potential move for Kylian Mbappe as well but it will be very difficult to pull off. The only thing we can do is wait and watch.
