Real Madrid have a fantastic record in recent times when it comes to identifying top talents from around the world, signing them and then developing them into superstars at Santiago Bernabeu. Vinicius Jr, Fede Valverde, Rodrygo and Eduardo Camavinga are fine examples of this strategy. This summer, they have signed Arda Guler, who is already earning rave reviews in training. And Endrick will arrive from Palmeiras in 2024 when he turns 18 years of age.

They have not found the success with the club’s own youth system though. Despite the fact that they have had some very highly-rated youngsters in their ranks.

Some like Achraf Hakimi and Fran Garcia have proven themselves after leaving the club. The latter was brought back this summer from Rayo Vallecano and they have been continuously linked with the former in recent years.

Right now, Real Madrid have a very highly-rated young defender in their ranks in Rafa Marin. He was expected to leave this summer on a permanent basis. But now, it looks like his future has taken an unexpected turn.

As reported by Relevo (via Foot Mercato), Marin is set to extend his contract with Real Madrid. Then, he is expected to join Real Betis on a loan deal.

Marin has been one of the most highly-rated youngsters in Spanish football for years now and he has put up some great performances at Castilla level as well. But despite that, he is yet to make his senior debut for Real Madrid at 21 years of age.

He needs to be playing regular football at this stage of his career. That might not come at Real Madrid though, with the club already having several options at centre-back in the form of Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba, Eder Militao and Nacho. Thus, going out on loan to Real Betis might be a great step for Marin instead.
