Real Madrid do not have much squad depth at this point of time. That was the case last season as well and we saw how Carlo Ancelotti struggled for options and had to play people out of position on numerous occasions over the course of the season. Things have not really changed drastically this summer in that respect.

Yes, the club have brought in Jude Bellingham, Arda Guler and Fran Garcia, while Joselu has arrived on loan from Espanyol. On the other hand though, Karim Benzema, Marco Asensio, Eden Hazard and Mariano Diaz left at the end of last season, and Jesus Vallejo has joined Granada on a temporary basis.

As a result, Real Madrid cannot really afford to let many of their players go this summer. That has not stopped quite a few from being linked with moves away.

One of them is Aurelien Tchouameni. There has been speculation surrounding his future, ever since he lost his position as a nailed on starter in the second half of last season. And one club he continues to be linked with is Liverpool.

Liverpool made bid for Real Madrid player last summer

As reported by The Telegraph, Tchouameni was the subject of a Liverpool transfer bid last summer. Logic suggests that he is the one Jurgen Klopp really wants if Real Madrid decide to let him go. Los Blancos might need cash, if they finally manage to sign Kylian Mbappe.

There have been question marks about Tchouameni’s place in the team for a while now. And those have only intensified following the arrival of Bellingham this summer.

At the same time, rumours have suggested that Tchouameni himself is not keen on leaving Real Madrid this summer. So, let’s see how things play out. There are a lot of moving parts here but giving him another season to prove himself at Santiago Bernabeu might be the right decision.
