The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga has been going on for several years now. The Frenchman has never looked closer to the PSG exit door though, not even last year when he was applauded by the Santiago Bernabeu crowd while his contract with the Ligue 1 giants was set to run out in the summer of 2022.
Back then, Mbappe went on to sign a contract extension with PSG, breaking the hearts of many Real Madrid fans in the process. But now, it looks like a move to the Spanish capital could be back on.
Mbappe’s current deal runs out in the summer of 2024 and it has emerged that he does not want to extend it further. On the other hand, PSG have made their stance quite clear as well. They want the Frenchman to either agree an extension or leave in this ongoing transfer window.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, PSG are convinced that Mbappe has already agreed terms to join Real Madrid in 2024 on a free deal. They wanted an answer on the ‘new deal or leave now’ proposition by July 15 but there has been nothing at all. He is now considered available for transfer.
Fabrizio offers major Mbappe to Real Madrid news
Thus, it looks like PSG are pretty clear about the situation. They want Mbappe to leave if he won’t sign an extension.
Of course, not everything will depend on the club. Mbappe holds the majority of the cards right now, with only a year left on his contract. But staying on at PSG, if they don’t want him, is not ideal. It would hurt his legacy at Parc des Princes, where he has spent six seasons.
Let’s see if Real Madrid end up making a move for Mbappe this summer. Premier League clubs could try to sign him too.
