Since their change in ownership, Chelsea have been following a very similar transfer strategy to that of Real Madrid, where they sign up the most highly-rated young talents from around the world. It has not paid off for them till now, as they are coming off of their worst campaign of this century. But the Blues seem to be sticking to it for the time being.
Just this summer, they have brought in Nicolas Jackson and Angelo. Brighton & Hove Albion’s Moises Caicedo is believed to be their top target for the window. And it looks like they have an eye on one of Real Madrid’s targets as well.
The player in question is Mohammed Kudus. The Ghana international has been linked on multiple occasions with Real Madrid since the time of the 2022 World Cup. But it looks like it is Chelsea, who have taken a significant step in the race to sign him.
As reported by The Athletic, Chelsea have contacted Ajax to express an interest in signing Kudus. On the other hand, an agreement with the player on personal terms is close.
Chelsea close to agreeing terms with Real Madrid target
Kudus is a superb talent and is coming off of a great campaign. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 18 goals and provided 7 assists in 42 appearances for Ajax last season.
Kudus has shown the ability to rise to the occasion as well and had goals against teams like Liverpool, Napoli and PSV Eindhoven to his name last season. His versatility will be attractive to teams as well, as he can play as a centre forward, as a right winger or in the number 10 role, and even deeper in midfield if the situation calls for it.
Thus, it is not hard to see why top teams are interested in signing Kudus. If Chelsea manage to get a deal done, it would be a major coup.
