Chelsea are a club who have been very active in the summer transfer window, but the majority of that activity has seen players, including key ones, leave the club. When it comes to make signings, the Blues have struggled. Until now, Nicolas Jackson and Angelo are the only two players they have brought in, who might have a role in the senior team next season. The deal for Christopher Nkunku was agreed a long time back. But it seems like they have eyes on a Real Madrid player.

That is none other than Federico Valverde. The Uruguayan midfielder has been a key part of Carlo Ancelotti’s team over the past two seasons.

Thus, it is believed that Real Madrid have no intention of letting Valverde go this summer. But in recent years, they have shown that they are open to exits of even key players, if the right offer is on the table.

As reported by Defensa Central (via Fichajes), Chelsea could offer a €115 million fee for Valverde this summer, and would increase the figure to €130 million in 2024. That would make him the most expensive signing in the club’s history.

If the figures are accurate, then they might certainly tempt Real Madrid. It would be the record departure in their history. At the end of the day, they are stacked in the middle of the park after the arrival of Jude Bellingham. And if Los Blancos are to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer, they might need to let a high-profile name go.

At this point of time, Chelsea appear to be stuck chasing the signature of Moises Caicedo. Brighton & Hove Albion are rumoured to be looking for a £100 million transfer fee though. Thus, it could make sense for the Blues to shell out a bit more and someone a lot more proven like Valverde, even though he is a very different kind of midfielder when compared to the Ecuadorian international.

Let’s see how things play out this summer. It might be worth keeping an eye on the Valverde to Chelsea rumours, although the Uruguayan staying on at Real Madrid seems a lot more likely.
