The Kylian Mbappe transfer saga has been full of twists and turns, but he has never looked closer to the Paris Saint-Germain exit door than he does now. The French club not only seem to be willing, but eager, for the French World Cup winner to depart this summer. And unsurprisingly, Real Madrid appear to be his most likely destination.

For years, Mbappe has seemed destined for Real Madrid. It is no secret that he grew up as a fan of Cristiano Ronaldo and Los Blancos. The move has not transpired, yet.

There were some fears that PSG might not be willing to negotiate with Real Madrid over a transfer, due to their rumoured frosty relationship. That does not appear to be the case at all though.

As reported by The Telegraph, PSG will speak to Real Madrid among several clubs over the departure of Mbappe in the coming days. The talks with Los Blancos are likely to revolve around whether they can afford a deal to land the French World Cup winner this summer.

Signing Mbappe this summer makes sense for Real Madrid. With Karim Benzema leaving at the end of last season, they are without a world-class forward. The World Cup winner is capable of filling his boots up top and be the face of the club.

At the same time though, one has to recognise that the entire operation of bringing Mbappe to Santiago Bernabeu this summer would likely cost around £400 million. Thus, it is not hard to see why a club might prefer to wait a year in hopes of seeing the Frenchman become available as a free agent.

Let’s see how things play out in the Mbappe to Real Madrid saga. There’s several weeks of the transfer window still to go.
