It is no secret that Real Madrid have had Kylian Mbappe in their sights for a long time. They appeared to be very close last year as well, with the Frenchman even being applauded by the fans at Santiago Bernabeu, before he unexpected ended up signing a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain.

A little over a year later, Mbappe’s future is in doubt once again. His current deal with PSG runs out next summer.

PSG have made it clear that they want Mbappe to either sign a contract extension with the club or leave this summer itself. It is the Frenchman who holds the majority of the trump cards in this situation though, as he has only a year left on his deal.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid have been placed as the favourites to sign Mbappe, if he does end up leaving PSG this summer. Florentino Perez appears to be completely calm about the situation despite constant speculation and rumours in the media about the potential move.

As reported by GOAL, when pressed about the club’s interest in Mbappe, Perez told LaSexta:

"“I am always calm.”"

Signing Mbappe would be a major coup for Real Madrid. And the timing might end up making a lot of sense as well. The club are in need of a world-class centre-forward right now, following the departure of Karim Benzema.

Mbappe could come in an fill that role for Real Madrid while also becoming the face of the club. Of course, signing him will be no easy task.

While PSG seem eager to part ways with Mbappe, they will be looking for a big transfer fee as well. Clubs from the Premier League like Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal have all been linked with him in recent weeks. And there are rumours of Al-Hilal making an offer as well.
