Real Madrid have done a terrific job when it comes to identifying young talents from all over the world, signing them and then developing them into regular starters at Santiago Bernabeu. But when it comes to their record of bringing through the club’s own youth stars into the senior team, there has been a lot left to desire.
Real Madrid have had a number of highly-rated youngsters in their youth ranks in recent years. Most of them have never gotten the opportunity to show what they are capable of at the senior level though.
Sergio Arribas is certainly someone who falls under that category. He was considered as the next big thing at the club while coming through the youth and developmental ranks.
He has barely gotten any chances in the first-team though and is now expected to leave in search of playing time this summer. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Arribas has made 14 appearances for Real Madrid and played 183 minutes of football in total till now.
La Liga rivals eyeing €10 million Real Madrid wonderkid
Arribas will turn 22 years of age in September. At this stage of his career, he needs to be playing regular football and thus, rumours of him being on the way out should not surprise anyone.
As reported by Mundo Deportivo, Mallorca are the latest Spanish team to join the race to sign Arribas. They would see the youngster as an ideal option to replace Kang-in Lee, who recently departed the club in order to join PSG.
As has been the case in recent years, one would expect Real Madrid to seek a 50% sell-on clause in any deal for Arribas. It is also believed that they are looking for a transfer fee around €10 million. That could be a bit steep though, for a 21-year-old who has played so little senior level football.
