Cristiano Ronaldo is arguably the best player in Real Madrid history. Even if he is not, he is certainly in the conversation, and getting there is not an easy task when you consider the storied history of Los Blancos. It has been more then five years since he left the club but they still have not found the right successor to his legendary number 7 jersey.
It was first handed to Mariano Diaz and we all knew how that turned out. The next to put on the number 7 shirt was Eden Hazard. And while the Belgian had all the talent and pedigree, his run at Real Madrid proved to be a flop as he struggled with constant injuries for four years.
Real Madrid will be hoping that it is third time lucky for them. Vinicius Jr will be wearing the number 7 shirt from next season. And he clearly understands the impact that Ronaldo made during his time at Santiago Bernabeu.
As tweeted out by MadridXtra, Vinicius said about Ronaldo:
"“I am inspired by Cristiano because I have seen him from his first game to his last and he has marked an era in this club.”"

Vinicius might very well be the face of Real Madrid, now that Karim Benzema has left the club. Of course, that could change if they are able to sign Kylian Mbappe this summer, which is starting to feel like a real possibility at this point.
Even if Mbappe arrived, one would expect Vinicius to keep his place in the starting XI. The French is capable of playing as a centre-forward and that is the role that he would be expected to occupy with Benzema no longer at the club.
Vinicius has been in terrific form over the past couple of seasons. Hopefully, he will continue to build on that moving forward as well. If he continues on this path, he is going to be a Ballon d’Or contender for the next decade.
