Manchester United have been searching for a striker this summer. Earlier they had been linked with Harry Kane, but it became clear quickly that a deal was not going to happen. They would soon move their eyes towards one of Real Madrid’s long-time targets though. And on this occasion, the Red Devils have been successful.

Of course, it has come at a cost. It appears that Manchester United will be shelling out a £72 million transfer package for the 20-year-old.

The player in question is Rasmus Hojlund. The Danish international is one of the most highly-rated young strikers in Europe right now and has earned comparisons with Erling Haaland for his style of play, even though he is not at that level as a goalscorer yet. Real Madrid have been linked with him on numerous occasions in recent times.

As reported by Sky Sports, Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta over the signing of Hojlund. The transfer deal is worth an initial £64 million with a further £8 million in add-ons.

Hojlund is coming off of a promising campaign with Atalanta. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 10 goals and provided 4 assists in 34 appearances for the Italian club.

Those are solid stats but not incredible though. As a result, the £72 million transfer fee is certainly a major risk on the part of Manchester United. Hojlund has the potential to be one of the best strikers in Europe but he is yet to show his goalscoring prowess at a high level.

It is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would have shelled out that kind of a figure to sign Hojlund this summer. Now, it remains to be seen how the Danish international striker will do at Manchester United moving forward. Erik ten Hag’s side certainly had a hit-and-miss record with their signings last season.
