Arda Guler arrived at Real Madrid amidst high expectations this summer. But then, that is what you expect from an 18-year-old who is nicknamed the ‘Turkish Messi’. There were even suggestions that the youngster had blown away the coaching staff and his teammates with his performances in training upon arriving.

Thus, it was looking like Real Madrid had pulled off a masterstroke by signing Guler for a transfer fee of around €20 million. But the youngster suffered a blow before even making his first appearance for the club.

Guler has picked up an injury, which prevented him from taking part in any of Real Madrid’s pre-season games. There have also been suggestions that he could have to undergo surgery if things don’t start improving soon. Fortunately, there seems to be a positive update surrounding the situation.

As tweeted out by Mario Cortegana, Guler has completed the first part of his treatment and feels very good. If he continues like this for the next five to six days, surgery will be ruled out.

That will be music to the ears of Real Madrid supporters. Hopefully, Guler will continue on this path and surgery won’t be required. Undergoing an operation would put him on the sidelines for several months.

In many ways, this is also a reminder that it is important to take things slow with Guler. He might be a supreme talent, but he is also just 18 years of age and has not played at this level before. One cannot make the mistake of rushing his development.

Guler should be getting first-team minutes here and there, but he should not be under any pressure to produce big numbers anytime soon. If his development goes according to expectations, he will be a key player for Real Madrid in time.
