Real Madrid have built up quite a reputation for signing some of the most highly-rated South American talents and turning them into first-team superstars at Santiago Bernabeu. The likes of Vinicius Junior, Rodrygo and Fede Valverde arrived as teenagers and are now regular starters for Los Blancos.

Thus, it came as no surprise when they were linked with one of the brightest young talents in Argentine football recently. The player in question is Gianluca Prestianni.

The 17-year-old currently plays for Velez Sarsfield. As reported back in January by MARCA, Real Madrid and Barcelona were trying to sign Prestianni.

Both Spanish giants have lost out in the race to sign the Argentine super talent though. As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Benfica have now reached an agreement with Velez for the ‘future’ signing of Prestianni. The agreement will be a ‘priority option’ to sign the player, in order to complete the deal in 2024.

Prestianni has already made some history. He became the third youngest player to debut in the Argentine top flight. You might have heard of the only two ahead of him on that list, Diego Maradona and Sergio Aguero.

So, it is not hard to see why there is so much interest in signing Prestianni. His numbers for Velez Sarsfield till now might not be incredible but it is important to remember that the Argentine youngster is just 17 years of age. He has plenty of time to develop and improve at the senior level. The same thing can be said about Endrick, who Real Madrid agreed to sign in 2024 not too long ago.

It remains to be seen how things turn out for Prestianni. He is headed to Benfica in 2024. But if he does well there, a future move to Real Madrid cannot be ruled out.
