Real Madrid have arguably the best goalkeeper in the world right now in the form of Thibaut Courtois. The Belgian arrived at the club from Chelsea back in 2018 and after an unsteady start, he has gone on to establish himself as an undisputed starter between the posts for Los Blancos. Also, at 31 years of age, he should have plenty left in the tank.

That also means though that chances have been almost impossible to come by for other goalkeepers at Real Madrid. And there are huge question marks over the future of Andriy Lunin.

Lunin has been one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers in the world for a while but he has only made a handful of appearances for Real Madrid. Even those have come when Courtois has been unavailable.

Lunin’s performance levels seem to have dipped in recent times as well. And with just a year left on his current deal, his future at Real Madrid has been brought into question. The club seem to have targets in the scenario the goalkeeper leaves.

As reported by Fichajes (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid are interested in Anatoliy Trubin. They view the Shakhtar Donetsk goalkeeper as a potential replacement for Lunin.

Lunin has faced Real Madrid in the Champions League in the recent past and on those occasions, he impressed. Thus, it is not hard to see why or when the 22-year-old might have caught the eye of Los Blancos.

Similar to Lunin, Trubin is one of the most highly-rated young goalkeepers as well. Would he be happy playing a backup role to Courtois though? At this point in time, it is hard to see anyone moving ahead of the Belgian in the pecking order over the next few years at least.
