Real Madrid fans would have been hoping for a lot of additions this summer, considering the lack of depth in several positions across the pitch. But instead, more have left than arrived. Karim Benzema, Mariano Diaz, Eden Hazard and Marco Asensio departed at the end of the previous campaign. More recently, Antonio Blanco signed for Alaves while Rafa Marin and Jesus Vallejo left on loan. And now, another player looks set to head out.
That player in question is none other than Sergio Arribas. The 21-year-old has been very highly-rated for a long time and fans have wished for him to get more chances to prove himself at the senior level.
Unfortunately, they have not come and now, Arribas is set to leave the club on a permanent basis. He will be remaining in La Liga though.
As reported by The Athletic, Arribas is set to leave Real Madrid and join Almeria. The club have accepted an offer close to €8 million for 50% of the player rights.
Real Madrid accept transfer offer for 21-year-old player
Real Madrid do not have a great record when it comes to bringing their youth stars into the senior team. More often than not, they have sent the players out on loan or transferred them while retaining a 50% sell-on clause.
Of course, the club also showed the openness to bring these players back if they impress after leaving. Dani Carvajal is the best example of that. This summer, they signed Fran Garcia from Rayo Vallecano.
Thus, it remains to be seen what the future holds for Arribas. His time at Real Madrid might be nearing its end but the door could very well be open for a return in the future if he is able to impress at Almeria. He is expected to get chances there to show what he can do.
