Napoli produced one of the truly great stories in European football last season by winning the Serie A title against all odds. It was their first league triumph since the time of Diego Maradona at the club. Now with expectations raised, they need to continue performing at a high level. And it looks like one of Real Madrid’s targets has caught their eye.

Real Madrid have built up a reputation for signing the best young talents from around the world. Gabri Veiga of Celta Vigo certainly falls under that category.

Veiga enjoyed a breakout campaign last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the 21-year-old scored 11 goals and provided 4 assists in 36 La Liga appearances in the 2022/23 campaign.

This included goals against teams like Barcelona, Athletico Madrid, Real Betis and Sevilla. Unsurprisingly, he has been linked with some top clubs since then, one of them being Real Madrid.

Real Madrid have not made an offer for Veiga though, whose release clause is believed to stand at €40 million. But other clubs are taking steps to sign him.

As reported by SPORT, Napoli have put a €30 million offer on the table. But Celta Vigo president, Carlos Mourino, is not willing to lower a single euro from the clause.

It remains to be seen whether Napoli are ultimately able to reach an agreement with Celta Vigo or not. Veiga has been linked with several other big clubs like Chelsea, Liverpool and more. Curiously, a transfer exit is yet to transpire for the talented Spaniard.

It is not hard to see why someone like Veiga might interest Real Madrid. He fits their transfer policy perfectly. But at this point in time, Los Blancos are stacked in midfield and it is hard to see them shelling out a €40 million fee for the 21-year-old.
