Real Madrid duo set to miss start of La Liga season
Real Madrid have returned to training after having a few days off after the United States tour. Carlo Ancelotti’s team have begun their final preparations ahead of the La Liga opener against Athletic Bilbao. The manager is expected to be fine-tuning his squad over this week and deciding on his starting XI for the day.
However, Ancelotti does not have all of his players available right now. Two players who are absent are Dani Ceballos and Ferland Mendy. Both are currently dealing with injuries, and there has finally been an update on the timeline for their respective recoveries.
As reported by AS, Mendy suffers from a muscle injury in the right femoral biceps. Ceballos with an injury to the distal tendon of the right femoral biceps muscle. The Spaniard has about 20 days left until he returns and the Frenchman about two weeks.
Thus, both are almost certain to miss Real Madrid’s season-opener against Athletic Bilbao. And perhaps a few games after that as well.

With the high level of competition in the Real Madrid midfield, there was already pressure on Ceballos to earn his spot. However, he suffered an injury early in pre-season and was unable to travel for the United States tour.
As for Mendy, he was expected to use the pre-season to win back his place in the starting XI. With Fran Garcia arriving this summer, the 28-year-old was in a difficult situation already. And the Frenchman suffered yet another injury, during the friendly game against Barcelona.
Both players will no doubt face an uphill climb to earn their spots back, especially after untimely stints on the injured list while competition is highest. It remains to be seen how things play out for them over the coming weeks and months.
