Real Madrid have a clear lack of squad depth at this point in time. The club have added four fresh faces to the team this summer, bringing in Jude Bellingham, Fran Garcia, Arda Guler and Joselu. That is simply not enough though and more reinforcements are needed if Los Blancos are to present a serious challenge in all three competitions this season.

It remains to be seen whether the club will make more reinforcements or not. But they seem to be active when it comes to making additions to their youth ranks.

As reported by SUR, Real Madrid are very interested in the signing of the Malaga’s Izan Merino. They have put on the table an offer of €250,000 for his transfer and in principle he would become part of the youth team. Los Blancos also offer his club a contract with a long list of possible future income if the youngster achieves certain goals.

Malaga are not believed to be keen to let go of Merino though, who is very highly rated there. Now, let’s see how things turn out for the 17-year-old.

It will be interesting to see whether Real Madrid are successful in signing Merino. He is 17 years of age and a centre-back. Thus, one would not expect him to make it up to the senior team for a while, even if he arrived this summer.

Real Madrid do not have a great record in recent times when it comes to developing their youth stars and promoting them to the senior level. That has resulted in quite a few leaving this summer.

The likes of Rafa Marin, Sergio Arribas, Carlos Dotor have all headed out, either on loan or on permanent basis. All of them were incredibly highly rated at Castilla but never got proper chances at the senior level.
