Things continue to go from bad to worse for Real Madrid. Earlier it emerged that Thibaut Courtois has torn his ACL and it could be a season-ending injury for the Belgian goalkeeper. One of the best players in Carlo Ancelotti’s side, Los Blancos will need to find a way to replace him in the ongoing summer transfer window.
Courtois is not the only player dealing with an injury at the moment. Another one is Arda Guler. The Turkish wonderkid was signed this summer from Fenerbahce for a transfer fee believed to be north of €20 million.
He has suffered an injury before even making his debut for Real Madrid. The hope was that he would be able to recover. But now, it looks like an operation has been deemed necessary.
As reported by The Athletic, Guler is set to undergo surgery on his right knee injury. The youngster will remain on the sidelines for around a month and a half.
Real Madrid summer signing set to undergo surgery
Guler had been impressing immensely and earning a lot of plaudits following his arrival. But he picked up the injury in training while on the pre-season tour.
To be honest, being out of action for around six weeks is not a terrible outcome when there were initial fears that he could have been ruled out for more than three months. Now, it seems like he will be back after the international break.
Guler did not play a single friendly this summer. Thus, one would expect the Turkish wonderkid to take some time to get up to match speed once he is available again.
There is a lot of excitement around Guler already and it remains to be seen if he can deliver. For now, we can only wish him the best and hope for a speedy recovery.
