Real Madrid find themselves in the middle of an emergency out of nowhere. The club must sign a goalkeeper this summer after Thibaut Courtois picked up a potentially season-ending injury. The Belgian goalkeeper has torn his ACL and is expected to be out for several months. Andriy Lunin is the cover option that the Spanish giants have right now.
Lunin is a highly-rated goalkeeper but his recent performances have left a lot to be desired. In fact, he was being heavily linked with a move away before Courtois’ injury.
Thus, it is hard to imagine that Real Madrid would be open to Lunin being their number one between the posts for potentially the entire season. And plenty of goalkeepers have been linked with a move to Santiago Bernabeu over the past 24 hours or so.
One of the names who is rumoured to be on Real Madrid’s radar is Kepa Arrizabalaga. But there seems to be interest from other high-profile clubs in the Chelsea goalkeeper as well.
Bayern Munich submit official offer for Real Madrid target
As tweeted out by Florian Plettenberg, Bayern Munich has submitted an official offer to Chelsea for Kepa. It is about a one-year-loan with an option to buy.
Of course, Bayern Munich manager, Thomas Tuchel, will know Kepa well, having managed him during his time at Chelsea. On the other hand, this is not the first time that Real Madrid have been linked with the Spaniard either.
Kepa was believed to have been a target of Real Madrid before they signed Courtois. Incidentally, Chelsea signed the Spaniard to replace the outgoing Belgian in the summer of 2018.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Kepa. But it is fascinating that two of the biggest clubs in Europe are trying to sign him despite his underwhelming spell at Chelsea.
