Real Madrid suddenly find themselves in need of a goalkeeper. Thibaut Courtois, perhaps the best in the world in his position, tore his ACL. As a result, he is expected to spend several months out on the sidelines and might not even be back in action this season. So, Los Blancos need to make an addition between the posts.
They have Andriy Lunin, but his recent performances have not been up to par. It would be a major risk to go into the season with him as the number one.
It does not look like Real Madrid are planning to do that either. In fact, they appear to be already taking positive steps to bring in another goalkeeper to Santiago Bernabeu.
As tweeted out by Sports Zone, Yassine Bounou and Real Madrid have reached an agreement in principle. Now everything is between the two clubs. Los Blancos do not seem inclined to pay a €20 million fee for the player. Negotiations are continuing.
Real Madrid reach agreement with Sevilla goalkeeper
Bounou has been pretty much a late bloomer. He is 32 years of age and it is only recently that he has started to get his plaudits.
Bounou proved himself as one of the most underrated goalkeepers in the world with his performances for the Moroccan national team at last year’s World Cup. He was one of the biggest reasons behind them reaching the semi-finals of the competition.
Signing someone like Bounou would be a major coup for Real Madrid. He might be 32 years old but the club do not need a long-term solution either. They need someone capable of being the number one until Courtois is back from injury, upon which one would expect him to be given his place back in the team. Now, let’s see if the club can agree a deal for the Moroccan.
