Real Madrid fans have not forgotten the failed David de Gea transfer saga of 2015. The club had even agreed a deal with Manchester United to sign the Spanish goalkeeper, at the peak of his powers at that point in time. But the move did not go through because the paperwork was not submitted in time.

De Gea would go on to stay eight more years at Manchester United after that. It was earlier this summer that he finally departed Old Trafford, with his contract running out.

He is available as a free agent right now. On the other hand, Real Madrid are in search of a goalkeeper after Thibaut Courtois tore his ACL and could be out for the entirety of the 2023/24 season.

Unsurprisingly, Real Madrid have been linked with a move for De Gea. But once again, it looks like a switch to Santiago Bernabeu might not be on the cards for the Spaniard.

As reported by Miguel Angel Diaz in El Partidazo de COPE (via Cope), De Gea does not convince Ancelotti. And he would be the one who would veto the option of signing him even if it was free.

De Gea is without a doubt one of the best goalkeepers of his generation. At the same time, the game has changed a lot over the past decade or so.

Now, goalkeepers are expected to be great with the ball at their feet as well. That is an aspect, where De Gea has never really excelled. It was ultimately a key reason why he was always on borrowed time at Manchester United over the past few years.

It is easy to understand why Ancelotti might not be keen on signing De Gea, even as a free agent, if he feels that the Spaniard does not fit his style of football. In this situation, the club must back the Italian.
