Real Madrid provide official update on Eder Militao injury
Real Madrid made a winning start to the season, with a 2-0 victory over Athletic Bilbao away at San Mames. It was not all positive though. Eder Militao ended up suffering an injury early on in the second half and was forced off the pitch. Unfortunately, the fans’ fears about the seriousness of it have come true.
Real Madrid have issued an update on the injury status of Militao. And it looks like he will be on the sidelines for a long time to come.
As reported on the club’s official website, Militao has been diagnosed with a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. The player will undergo surgery in the coming days.
Another ACL injury for one of Real Madrid’s most important players. Just a few days after losing Thibaut Courtois for possibly the entirety of the campaign with the same issue. Los Blancos will now be without their best defender for at least the majority of the season if not all of it.
Real Madrid provide official update on Militao injury
An ACL injury is the exact news that all Real Madrid fans had been fearing since Militao went down injured in the match against Athletic Bilbao. He was visibly in a lot of pain and was only able to walk off the pitch with assistance.
Losing Militao for an extended period of time is an absolutely massive blow for Real Madrid. The Brazilian has not only been the club’s best defender for the past number of seasons but arguably the best across all of Europe. His combination of strength, physicality, speed, and ball-playing ability has made him an integral part of this team.
At this moment it is unclear if Real Madrid are considering bringing in another centre-back to fill the gap created by Militao’s injury. They seem to be on the verge of signing Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan deal. And it would not be a surprise if they try to sign a defender on a temporary basis as well.
