Days after Thibaut Courtois was sidelined for the foreseeable future, Eder Militao tore his ACL as well. The incident happened in Real Madrid’s opening La Liga game of the campaign against Athletic Bilbao away at San Mames. Early in the second half, the Brazilian appeared to get his studs caught in the pitch and it resulted in his injury. He is set to undergo surgery and could be out for the rest of the season.

A major blow for Real Madrid to say the very least. Militao is arguably the club’s best defender and replacing him will be very difficult.

They have Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho as the centre-back options right now. That might not be enough for the long season. Especially considering all of them are in their 30s.

Hopefully, the club will sign a centre-back to replace Militao. Even if on a short-term basis, like they are set to bring in Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea to take Courtois’ place between the posts.

Real Madrid fans want free agent to replace Militao

Many Real Madrid fans have been calling for the club to bring back Sergio Ramos in order to take Militao’s place in the squad. The Spanish legend is currently a free agent, with his contract with PSG running out this summer.

Ramos is 37 years of age now and nowhere near his prime. He did play regular football for PSG last season though. And as a backup option, bringing him back for the short term might not be a bad idea at all.

Ramos knows the club like the back of his hand and he will add some much-needed experience to this young squad as well. But then, on the other hand, it would not be ideal to add a 37-year-old centre-back to an already ageing defensive backline.
