Eder Militao recently tore his ACL. As a result, he is expected to miss the majority of the season if not all of it. The Brazilian international is arguably the best defender that Real Madrid have right now. So, his long-term absence will be difficult to deal with for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, who were already looking shaky at the back before it.

It will be interesting to see whether Real Madrid sign a centre-back to replace Militao. Signing a player there was certainly not in their plans for the summer but things might have changed considering the circumstances.

Antonio Rudiger, David Alaba and Nacho are the three centre-backs available to Ancelotti right now. It is also believed that Marvel, the 20-year-old standout from Castilla, has been promoted to the senior team.

There seems to be a Manchester City centre-back who appears to have an eye on a potential move to Santiago Bernabeu amidst all this. As reported by The Sun, Aymeric Laporte is waiting to see if Real Madrid show any interest after Militao’s injury.

Laporte is available for transfer this summer. In fact, Al-Nassr are believed to have already agreed a fee with Manchester City. Now, it remains to be seen what the player decides to do.

Of course, Laporte already has a lot of experience playing in Spain, having come through the ranks at Athletic Bilbao. Thus, someone like him could be a smart addition for Real Madrid in a time of need.

He has been at Manchester City since 2018 and won a lot of silverware with them. He seems to have slipped down the pecking order in recent times though.

One cannot overlook his extensive injury history though. Thus, there would be risk involved in any move for Laporte, especially considering the fitness issues Real Madrid have been dealing with for the past several years now.
