Real Madrid do not have a great recent record when it comes to bringing through their youth standouts into the senior team. Just this summer, we have seen Carlos Dotor and Sergio Arribas leave on a permanent basis to join Celta Vigo and Almeria respectively. On the other hand, Rafa Marin has joined Alaves on loan. Those were three of the most highly-rated Castilla players of their age group but never really got a proper chance in the first-team.
The focus has to be on the future now. And interestingly, things after looking up for one youngster in particular.
There have been suggestions that Marvel from Castilla could be the fourth centre-back in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad moving forward. This is a direct result of Eder Militao suffering a torn ACL, which could keep him out of action for the entirety of the season.
Of course, the circumstances are terrible and we can only hope that Militao recovers as soon as possible. At the same time, it does open up an opportunity for someone like Marvel to show what he is capable of.
Real Madrid wonderkid set to sign new deal until 2026
The good news does not stop for the 20-year-old there. As reported by MARCA, Marvel will also sign an extension and improvement of his contract until 2026 in the coming days.
It remains to be seen if Marvel gets some consistent playing time at the senior level this season. He appears to have convinced Ancelotti that he is good enough to be the fourth-choice centre-back in the absence of Militao.
At the same time, it would be important to take things slowly as well. One needs to remember that Marvel has not made his debut for the Real Madrid senior team yet. He will need time to adjust to that level.
