Real Madrid have a number of holes in their squad right now. The long-term injuries to Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao mean that those areas have come under the spotlight recently and are in need of immediate reinforcements. Kepa Arrizabalaga has arrived on loan and let’s see if the club sign a centre-back or not. There are several other positions on the pitch where Los Blancos need to make additions as well though.

Right-back has to fall under that category. Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he once was. On the other hand, they have no real backup in that position either.

Real Madrid have needed a new right-back for a while. Yet, it looks like the club have chosen to strengthen in other areas, overlooking the right flank.

They have been linked with quite a few right-backs in recent months. Ivan Fresneda of Real Valladolid is one of them. He is one of the most highly-rated young talents in Spanish football right now. It does seem like he is eyeing a move to Barcelona though.

As reported by ESPN, Fresneda is waiting to see if Barcelona move for him before taking a decision on his future. The 18-year-old Real Valladolid player gave the green light to join the Catalan club several weeks back. But opinion within the Camp Nou side seems to be divided on whether they should sign the right-back or not.

Barcelona have interestingly been linked with Joao Cancelo as well. Thus, it remains to be seen whether they make a move for Fresneda or choose to go for a more experienced option.

When it comes to Real Madrid, it just does not feel like they will make a move for Fresneda this summer despite the rumours. Expect Carvajal to remain the first-choice right-back.
