Real Madrid have made a very positive start to the season. Fans have been worried about the lack of depth and injury problems all summer, but on the pitch, Los Blancos have not shown any weakness yet. They won 3-1 this weekend away at Almeria thanks to a brace from Jude Bellingham and a goal from Vinicius Jr.

Vinicius is playing in an unfamiliar role this season, as part of a duo up top with Rodrygo, as the club are missing a genuine world-class striker right now. And the goal should have done his confidence no harm.

Carlo Ancelotti is renowned for being one of the most relaxed managers in world football. Yet, there was one occasion in the game against Almeria when he seemed to be unhappy with Vinicius and the two appeared to exchange words.

Real Madrid fans have been curious about the incident. And Ancelotti has now explained what it was all about.

Why Real Madrid boss was unhappy with Vinicius Jr

It looks like Ancelotti was unhappy with Vinicius losing the ball unnecessarily. As reported by 90min, the Italian manager said in his post-match press conference:

"“I complained to him about an unnecessary loss of possession, he answered me and I told him no, he did not need to lose the ball.“I do not want to take away the genius he has and sometimes he takes a little risk, and then I get a little angry.“But other times I get excited about how he plays. The balance is that I get excited many more times than the few times I get angry.”"

Of course, Vinicius has an exciting but risky style of play. There are occasions when he does end up losing possession of the ball while attempting to make something happen and it can be frustrating for a manager. But at the same time, it is also what makes the Brazilian so special.

Ancelotti deserves immense credit for the transformation that Vinicius has undergone under his management. Before the arrival of the Italian, he was an extremely highly-rated winger but just could not put it all together.

In fact, he had never scored more than three league goals for Real Madrid in a season. Now, he is arguably the face of the team and their most reliable source of goals. That is quite extraordinary over the space of just two years.
