There are a number of positions on the pitch where Real Madrid could do with reinforcements right now. There is no lack of talent in the current squad but definitely a lack of depth and options. Two such areas are right-back and centre-back. Eder Militao picked up a long-term injury recently. On the other hand, it has been clear for a while that Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he was in his prime.

There is one player the club have been linked with for a while, who could have solved both those issues. But unfortunately, it appears that he is headed for Italy instead.

That player is none other than French World Cup winner, Benjamin Pavard. He currently plays for Bayern Munich but it looks like that won’t remain the case much longer.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan and Bayern Munich have now reached an agreement in principle for Pavard. It is a €30 million deal plus €2 million or €3 million add-ons package.

Pavard is capable of playing both as a right-back and as a centre-back. Thus, it is not hard to see why someone like him could have been a great addition to this Real Madrid team, especially considering the circumstances that they find themselves in.

At 27 years of age, Pavard is also in the middle of his prime and should have quite some time at the top level left in the tank. But unfortunately, despite all the rumours, a move to Santiago Bernabeu was not in the cards for the Frenchman.

To be honest, it does not feel like Real Madrid are going to make any more additions to their squad this summer. Expect Carvajal to remain the starter while 20-year-old centre-back, Marvel, appears to have been promoted from Castilla.
