Real Madrid have done a fantastic job when it comes to identifying young talents from all over the world, bringing them to Santiago Bernabeu and turning them into absolute superstars. Of course, they have been linked with a long list of players as a result. They have been successful in signing some and missed out on plenty as well.

It looks like it is time to add the name of Gabri Veiga to the latter category. Now, it had become pretty clear that Real Madrid were not going to activate his release clause and sign him this summer.

His destination will come as a surprise to supporters all around the world though. Veiga was linked with not only Real Madrid but clubs like Chelsea and Liverpool, while he had looked close to a move to Napoli for the past few weeks. He is set to join Al-Ahli though.

As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Veiga to Al Ahli is ‘here we go’. The bid has been accepted by Celta Vigo and the player has also said yes.

Veiga joining Al-Ahli at this stage of his career has not gone down well with a lot of people. Many view this as a misstep in his career when it comes to developing and becoming the best player possible.

Veiga was on the verge of breaking into the Spanish national team setup and appeared to be on the verge of joining a top European team, where he would get the chance to compete in the Champions League on a regular basis. Now, it looks like none of that is going to happen.

At the same time though, it is not hard to see why he would want to join Al-Ahli, even at 20 years of age. Footballers have uncertain careers. And he is not the only one to make such a move this summer either.
