Real Madrid’s brilliant start to the season has been slightly overshadowed by their injury problems. Marquee players like Thibaut Courtois and Eder Militao as well as summer signing, Arda Guler, are all out on the sidelines. The club even had to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga on loan from Chelsea in order to take the Belgian’s place in goal for the time being.

Recent developments in the recovery process of two other Real Madrid players have come as a sigh of relief for the club and the fans. Dani Ceballos and Ferland Mendy seem to be closing in on a return.

Ceballos suffered an injury to the distal tendon of the right femoral biceps muscle during pre-season, which has seen him sidelined for over a month now. Mendy got injured during the pre-season El Classico. The Frenchman is dealing with a right hamstring muscle injury.

But as reported by AS, Ceballos and Mendy got onto the Valdebebas pitch to advance their recovery process. They ran alone without touching the ball.

The duo is not included in the club’s trip to Celta Vigo this weekend. They appear to be hopeful of their return to the side soon though.

Ceballos’ return will be a boost for the side as squad depth is a vital aspect in order to achieve all their targets. However, the Spaniard will have to compete hard for a place in the starting line-up as even legends like Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are not guaranteed a place in midfield this season.

Mendy’s return on the other hand would be a boost to the club’s backline. Fran Garcia, who was signed back from Rayo Vallecano this summer, is the only left-back in the squad with the Frenchman out injured.

Ceballos and Mendy closing in on returns should be music to Carlo Ancelotti’s ears, as the team is already dealing with multiple injuries. Any positive development in the recovery process is definitely good news for the club.
