Real Madrid are no strangers to making signings that do not end up working out. In the past, we have seen many players come to Santiago Bernabeu for big transfer fees and with very high expectations surrounding them but in the end, many fail to live up to the hype and end up leaving without ever making a real impact.
One player in particular who had high expectations from fans upon his arrival was Eden Hazard. The Belgian superstar arrived in the summer of 2019 and was expected to be the new face of Real Madrid.
Fast forward to the summer of 2023 and the Belgian is without a club after agreeing to leave Real Madrid a year before his contract ran out. There has even been speculation about a possible retirement after his injury troubles in the Spanish capital.
As reported by Football Transfers, Crystal Palace are plotting a move for Hazard. He could be offered a simple one-year deal with a pay-as-you-play structure.
Hazard could join Premier League club after Real Madrid exit
Hazard’s time at Real Madrid was anything but smooth sailing. The Belgian suffered a long list of injuries and never really found his feet in the team.
In his four seasons at Real Madrid, Hazard only managed to score 4 league goals, a number that has already been matched by Jude Bellingham after just three games. It goes without saying that signing the Belgian proved to be a mistake for the club.
At this stage of his career, a short-term move to a club like Crystal Palace would not be a grand return to the Premier League for the Chelsea legend. But it would be a chance for him to prove that he still has what it takes to succeed at the top level. Also, it would give him the chance to play in London again.
