Kevin De Bruyne is without a doubt one of the best players of his generation and arguably one of the very best in history. What he has achieved at Manchester City sometimes flies under the radar. He has been the standout player in the English game since joining the Citizens in the summer of 2015 while Chelsea fans will forever wonder what could’ve been if he had gotten a proper chance at Stamford Bridge. Of course, Real Madrid fans will know about the Belgian’s quality very well.

De Bruyne scored against Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League semi-final. And then he provided a couple of assists in the second leg, as Manchester City booked their place in the final.

It is unlikely that we will ever see De Bruyne in a Real Madrid shirt. One player who seems almost destined to wear the Royal White jersey someday though is Kylian Mbappe.

For a while, it had looked like Mbappe was going to join Real Madrid this summer. That has not happened yet and is starting to seem unlikely. Next year, he is set to become a free agent though and no extension has been agreed with PSG yet.

De Bruyne appears to believe that joining Real Madrid could boost Mbappe’s future prospects of winning a Ballon d’Or. As reported by Football Espana, the Belgian said in an interview with Sky Sports:

"“I don’t know where Mbappe will play this season. I think it’s more difficult for Mbappe to win a Ballon d’Or at PSG. There are rumours he could go to Real Madrid, maybe that would put him first, ahead of Erling Haaland.”"

Of course, if Mbappe ended up joining Real Madrid, it is hard to see him not winning a Ballon d’Or or more in his career. The club have produced three different winners over the past decade.

Cristiano Ronaldo won it four times during his run at Real Madrid. On the other hand, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric got their hands on the prize once each too.
