Real Madrid were not expected to make any more signings this summer. The injury picked up by Vinicius Jr in the previous match against Celta Vigo might change the situation though. Los Blancos are already extremely light on options up front. And if the Brazilian superstar has to spend any considerable length of time on the sidelines, it would be a worry for them.

Initially, the suggestion was that the injury was nothing significant. Since then, there have been rumours doing the rounds online that the issue might be more serious than first thought.

No official news has come out yet regarding Vinicius’ injury and the extent of it. But if the issue is anything close to serious, the club must bring in a replacement. That player should not be Anthony Martial.

Rumours have broken out that Real Madrid have been offered the chance to sign Martial from Manchester United. The Frenchman does not seem to have a clear place in the team now and has not for a while to be honest.

Martial was one of the biggest talents in European football while coming through the ranks at AS Monaco. In fact, when Manchester United signed him back in 2015 for a then-record fee for a teenager, many believed they had brought in a future Ballon d’Or contender.

Martial made a great start to life at Manchester United as well. But as the years have passed by, his form seems to have fizzled away and he is pretty much a squad player at the moment.

One cannot ignore his extensive injury history either. Or the fact that he struggled in Spain, while on loan at Sevilla.

All things combined, it just does not make sense for Real Madrid to make a move for Martial. He might have been a wonderkid but he is 27 years old now.
