The Real Madrid and Kylian Mbappe transfer saga has been going on for years and has gotten more confusing with every passing year. This time around, it had finally looked like the Frenchman was pretty much certain to leave PSG. The Ligue 1 champions wanted him to either leave or sign a contract extension.

So much so that they left him out of their pre-season squad and for a while, he was not even training with their first-team. But then, there was an unexpected twist in the tale.

Mbappe and PSG now appear to be back on the same page almost out of the blue. He was brought back into the team and there have been rumours that a contract extension is possible in the future.

Throughout the entire summer, Real Madrid have remained extremely calm and held their cards close to their chest. But it looks like them making a last-minute transfer bid for Mbappe is not entirely out of the question, but only if one condition is met.

As reported by Planeta Real Madrid, Carlos Carpio said:

"“Real Madrid awaits a call in which Mbappe’s mother confirms that they have reached an agreement and that the figure requested by Paris Saint-Germain fits.”"

Of course, if there is one thing we have learned from this entire Mbappe saga, it is that nothing should ever be ruled out. It is worth remembering that the French World Cup winner is yet to agree a contract extension with PSG.

Thus, if PSG decide to not transfer Mbappe this summer, they would be taking a major risk. If he does not end up extending his contract in the future, then the Frenchman would be able to leave as a free agent when his deal runs out a year later.

At the same time, it is hard to see Real Madrid making a significant transfer bid this late in the window. Especially since they might have the chance to sign Mbappe as a free agent next summer itself.
