Real Madrid have had terrible luck when it comes to injuries. Thibaut Courtois tore his ACL before the season even began and Eder Militao suffered the same injury in the very first La Liga game of the campaign, against Athletic Bilbao. Arda Guler has undergone surgery recently as well. And now, it looks like Vinicius Junior could be out for a while too.

Vinicius appeared to suffer a hamstring injury in the game against Celta Vigo. The Brazilian went down, received some treatment and then tried to carry on. But he could not for much longer and was ultimately substituted off in the 18th minute.

Initially, the injury was not thought to be serious in nature and it was anticipated that he would miss just a game and return after the international break. But now, it looks like it might be a bigger issue.

As reported by The Athletic, Vinicius was assessed and it looked like the injury would rule him out for longer than first anticipated. He underwent further examinations the following day, and there were the same bad signs. He will undergo a scan, and the expected period of absence is believed to be not less than one month.

Real Madrid handed bad news about Vinicius Jr’s injury

Of course, Vinicius’ injury is terrible news for Real Madrid. The club already lack depth in the forward areas and have now lost arguably their most important player.

Without Vinicius available, it is hard to see how the new 4-4-2 system would work. Ancelotti might have to go back to a more familiair 4-3-3 with Joselu leading the line.

Of course, none of this is ideal. It is possible that Vinicius could end up missing the first Champions League group stage game along with several matches in La Liga, including the Madrid Derby towards the end of September.
