Real Madrid night not have a lot of options all across the pitch, but there is one area where they are absolutely stacked at the moment. It is their midfield, which many fans consider to be the best in Europe right now despite its youth and understandably so. Amidst all this, one all-time great appears to have gotten a bit lost in the shuffle though.

Jude Bellingham has come in and scored 4 goals in his first three games, showing that he is the real deal. Eduardo Camavinga had his breakout campaign last season. Aurelien Tchouameni seems to be back to his best. Federico Valverde has remained a consistent performer. And of course, Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are still at the club as well. Dani Ceballos picked up an injury in pre-season and is yet to return to action.

Modric seems to have slipped down the pecking order this season though. Amongst the six midfielders available to Carlo Ancelotti, he is the only one who has not started a game yet in the 2023/24 campaign.

Nearly 38 years of age, for most players, this would be no cause for worry. Modric is not just another player though and sitting on the bench regularly must be unfamiliar for the Croatian.

As reported by Relevo, Modric is unhappy with the situation. But in no case will he give up in the face of this new reality. The Croatian’s behaviour with his teammates will continue to be as exemplary as ever, but he will compete in every training session to regain his role as the undisputed starter.

Modric will know better than most that a long season is ahead. Sooner or later, his chances will come and he knows how to take them.

Modric can still be very important to this team. The club might need to rely on his experience and ability to deliver in the big games, even if he is no longer a nailed-on starter for the club.
