Manchester United were in need of a left-back in the late stages of the summer transfer window with Luke Shaw picking up an injury that will keep him out for a while. It looked like a loan deal for Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella was their preferred option. But that failed to transpire and they have brought in a former Real Madrid player on a temporary basis instead.

Cristiano Ronaldo, David Beckham, Casemiro, Angel Di Maria, Raphael Varane, Michael Owen and Ruud van Nistelrooy are just some of the names to have represented both Manchester United and Real Madrid. Now, Sergio Reguilon finds himself on that list as well.

After a loan move for Cucurella failed to transpire, rumours broke out that Manchester United had turned their sights towards Reguilon instead. And now, it seems that they have gotten the deal done.

No official announcement has been made yet. But recent comments from Erik Ten Hag have pretty much confirmed that Manchester United have signed Reguilon.

As reported by Sky Sports, Ten Hag said:

"“Reguilon is here, he trained.”"

When asked if the Spanish left-back would be available to face Arsenal, the Manchester United boss said:

"“Yes.”"

Reguilon’s form since leaving Real Madrid in 2020 have been unsteady. But despite that, he has found himself at some of the biggest clubs in European football.

He is currently a Tottenham Hotspur player. But he was on loan at Atletico Madrid last season. And will be pulling on the Manchester United shirt this time around.

It remains to be seen if his spell at Manchester United proves to be successful. With Shaw out injured, he is expected to get a fair few chances, at least at the start of the season. It is important that he makes an impression in those. And who knows, maybe he could end up having a long-term future at Old Trafford if he is able to impress Ten Hag.
