Real Madrid have not been very active in the summer transfer window after making quite a few signings early on. The only deal that they have made in recent weeks, and that was also due to the circumstances, was bringing in Kepa Arrizabalaga on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea after Thibaut Courtois suffered a potentially season-ending ACL injury before the campaign even started.

Deadline Day is now upon us. And it looks like there could be an unexpected exit before the summer transfer window slams shut.

It is not a departure that is going to change much in the first-team though, if it does end up going through. As reported by The Athletic, Alvaro Odriozola is in advanced talks over a permanent move to Real Sociedad.

Odriozola was signed by Real Madrid from Real Sociedad in 2018 for a transfer fee believed to be around €32 million. Since then, his career has not gone as expected though. And even if he completes a return to his former club this summer, Los Blancos are expected to receive only a fraction of what they shelled out to sign him and understandably so.

Odriozola has barely featured for Real Madrid over his five years at the club. He had loan spells at Bayern Munich and Fiorentina as well.

It is quite clear that he is not a part of first-team plans at the moment. Thus, Odriozola leaving right now might be the best step forward for all parties involved.

Right-back is an area where Real Madrid need to strengthen sooner or later though. Dani Carvajal is no longer the player that he was in his prime. On the other hand, there is no genuine back up option for the Spaniard in the current squad.
