Real Madrid were handed a major blow at the end of last season when Karim Benzema decided to leave the club and join Al-Ittihad. The expectation until then had been that the Frenchman would sign a contract extension with Los Blancos and remain at Santiago Bernabeu for another year. His departure left a void up top, one they have not really filled over the summer.
Joselu has been brought in on loan from Espanyol. The Spaniard is a very good striker without a doubt. But it just does not feel like he is the man to fill the boots of Benzema.
Interestingly, it looks like another Real Madrid legend could join Benzema at Al-Ittihad. He has an offer on the table to do so.
As tweeted out by Fabrizio Romano, Al Ittihad’s proposal to Sergio Ramos is a two-year deal with a break clause included in the contract. The Spaniard has also been approached by Turkish clubs.

It remains to be seen what Ramos decides to do. He is still very capable of playing at the top level in Europe.
Even last season he was starting games regularly for a top team like PSG. Thus, he should have no problem continuing to play in the Champions League.
At the same time, it is also important to recognise that Ramos has achieved everything that there was to achieve in Europe. Thus, at 37 years of age, it should not come as a surprise if he decides to pursue a different challenge.
There had even been some talk of Real Madrid signing Ramos as a free agent in order to fill Eder Militao’s spot in the team. But it looks like a return to Santiago Bernabeu, even on a short-term deal, is not on the cards for the club legend.
