The Erling Haaland to Real Madrid transfer rumours are nothing new. The Spanish capital was believed to be a potential destination for the Norwegian superstar before he ended up at Manchester City. It is a move that has paid off for him, as the club won the Treble in his very first season there while the striker himself managed 52 goals and broke several all-time records.

That makes him one of the top contenders for the Ballon d’Or alongside Lionel Messi. And unsurprisingly, the rumours linking him with a move to Real Madrid are back again.

On one hand, there have been suggestions that a release clause will become effective in his contract from the summer of 2024. Real Madrid could try to take advantage of that.

On the other hand, Real Madrid have not been able to complete a deal for Kylian Mbappe for years now and there are suggestions that he could agree a new deal with PSG. If that turns out to be the case, there is no better alternative than Haaland. In fact, many believe he is better than the Frenchman.

Manchester City are understandably keen not to see Haaland leave. And they might be ready to hand him a mega deal to make sure of it.

As reported by the Daily Star, Manchester City are preparing to hand Haaland a basic £600,000-a-week deal if he agrees to extend his contract beyond June 2027. They want to ensure that he does not leave for Real Madrid or the Saudi Pro League.

Of course, that would make him the highest earner in the Premier League by far. And considering how things are going at Manchester City right now, there is not much incentive for him to leave either unless he wants to try a different challenge.
