Carlo Ancelotti often does not get the credit that he deserves for the job that he has done at Real Madrid the second time around. It is hard to think of many other managers who could have guided his paper-thin squad to the top of the La Liga table after four matchdays, winning all of the games till now.
Last season, the club won the Copa del Rey, finished second in La Liga and made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League. But by Real Madrid’s standards, that is a mediocre campaign.
One has to point out the lack of depth in the squad though as well as the number of injuries that they had to deal with throughout the course of the season. One could easily make the argument that Ancelotti’s side over-delivered.
Still, his days in the Real Madrid hot seat seem to be numbered. It is widely expected that Ancelotti will leave at the end of this season when his current deal runs out. There is a lot of speculation that he will become the next Brazil manager. Who will replace him at Santiago Bernabeu though?
Real Madrid fans want former player to return as manager
Many Real Madrid fans believe that Xabi Alonso is the perfect manager to replace Ancelotti. Of course, he played for Los Blancos for five years and even managed them at the youth level early on in his coaching career.
Of course, Alonso has made great strides in management since then. He currently finds himself in the Bayer Leverkusen, his first top-level job.
Alonso joined the club in the middle of last season and helped them make an impressive turnaround. This season, they are sitting atop the Bundesliga table after winning their first three games. So, it is not hard to see why so many Real Madrid fans want him in the Santiago Bernabeu hot seat.
