Real Madrid might lack depth in a number of positions on the pitch, but they certainly have one of the strongest midfield departments in all of Europe. Jude Bellingham has been unstoppable since arriving, scoring five times in his first four games for the club and equalling Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in the process of doing so.

Eduardo Camavinga has proven to be a revelation after the World Cup and has to be considered a starter. And Aurelien Tchouameni seems to have rediscovered his form as well and is the best fit to sit at the base of the midfield diamond.

Amidst all this, one player seems to be getting a bit lost in the shuffle. That is none other than Federico Valverde.

As reported by El Nacional, clubs like Manchester United, Chelsea and Liverpool were interested in the Valverde. And he said “no”, but now he half regrets having made this decision.

Whether the rumours are accurate or not remains to be seen. He did start the first three games of the season and came on as a substitute in the fourth.

If you are Valverde, there are some reasons to be worried though. The first one is that he has been pushed down the pitch since the arrival of Bellingham, who has justified his selection at the tip of the midfield diamond.

This role does not make the most of Valverde’s abilities. We saw him go on a remarkable scoring run at the start of last season. This time around, he has yet to score or assist in the first four games.

And what happens if Real Madrid go back to a 4-3-3 formation. In that scenario, he might end up being the odd man out in midfield. On the other hand, Rodrygo is expected to start on the right flank if that that was to happen.
