Real Madrid are expected to make a blockbuster signing in the not-too-distant future. For years, it has been believed that they are chasing the signature of Kylian Mbappe. Yet, nothing has materialised in that regard till now. And the future remains uncertain, as there have been suggestions that the Frenchman signing a contract extension with PSG is not out of the realm of possibility.
If a move for Mbappe failed to transpire next summer as well, one would hope for Real Madrid to bring in an alternative. There is no doubt who the fans would want.
One could argue that Erling Haaland would be a better signing than Mbappe. The Norwegian is a goal machine and scored 52 times last season as Manchester City won a historic treble.
Real Madrid could certainly do with someone like Haaland. Especially with Karim Benzema no longer at the club, as he brought an end to his 14-year run at Santiago Bernabeu to join Al-Ittihad at the end of last season.
Real Madrid suffer major Haaland transfer blow
There is some bad news for Real Madrid fans who are hoping for the club to sign Haaland next summer. As reported by SPORT, Ramon Alvarez said:
"“Real Madrid has no expectation of being able to sign Haaland in 2024.”"
There have been suggestions that Manchester City want to agree a new deal with Haaland, just a year after his arrival, in order to make sure that the Norwegian remains at the club. It remains to be seen whether that happens or not.
It has never felt like Haaland is someone who would stay at Manchester City for years to come. But at the same time, there is no incentive for him to leave right now. They are the European champions, he is scoring goals there for fun and is one of the favourites to win the Ballon d’Or this year. On top of everything else, his father used to play for the club as well.
