The Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid transfer saga seems to go on and on. The club have been linked with a move for the Frenchman for several years now and looked close to signing him on more than one occasion. But it simply has not materialised yet. Santiago Bernabeu remains his most likely destination though, if or when Mbappe does decide to leave PSG.

Mbappe’s current deal with PSG runs out next summer. The club are believed to be pushing to agree an extension with him. But it has not led anywhere till now, even though there have been some suggestions that the Frenchman is now more open to the prospect of a new contract than he was in the past.

On the other hand, it looks like Real Madrid are continuing to plan a future move for Mbappe. And it looks like they will try to make something happen in January itself.

As reported by SPORT, Real Madrid’s intention is to close a written agreement with Mbappe as of January 2. That is the date on which he will be free to negotiate with whoever he wants.

It remains to be seen if Real Madrid are able to agree a pre-contract with Mbappe or not. If they are able to sign the French World Cup winner as a free agent next summer, it would go down as one of the best transfers ever.

Of course, we know that nothing is ever certain in the Mbappe saga. So until we see him holding up a Real Madrid shirt, everything should be considered as speculation.

There is no doubt that Real Madrid want Mbappe though. And when Los Blancos make a push for a player, it is rare that they do not end up signing him at some point.
