It is no secret that Real Madrid are in need of reinforcements up top. It was always the case, even while Karim Benzema was at the club. He decided to leave at the end of last season in order to join Al-Ittihad. Los Blancos have not properly replaced him though, only bringing in Joselu on a season-long loan deal from Espanyol.

Joselu is a good striker for sure. But he does not seem to be the kind of player who can carry the goalscoring burden of Real Madrid all on his own.

Carlo Ancelotti even ended up changing his system over the summer, going to a 4-4-2 and playing without a traditional number 9 by using the duo of Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo together up top. But those plans went south after the former picked up an injury recently and is expected to remain out for at least another three to four weeks.

That has left Real Madrid’s options absolutely paper-thin up top. And it has also shown the need for the club to bring in another striker.

As reported by Defensa Central (via The Hard Tackle), Real Madrid are interested in Mehdi Taremi. They could look to sign the FC Porto striker on loan if Ancelotti wants a striker this winter.

Taremi might be 31 years of age but he has been in spectacular form in recent times. He scored 31 goals for FC Porto across all competitions last season.

It is hard to imagine that FC Porto would be open to the prospect of letting him leave on loan in the middle of the season though. Let’s see how things play out. But if Real Madrid are in need of a short-term option up top, someone like Taremi could be absolutely perfect for Los Blancos.
